Divisions
The School of Arts and Sciences encompasses three major divisions that collectively shape Dartmouth’s academic core. Each division is led by a Dean who reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences, unifying our approach to our educational and scholarship mission.
These three divisions work in concert to advance Arts and Science initiatives and collaborate closely through the Dean’s Cabinet—ensuring alignment on strategic priorities, shared governance, and cross-divisional programming. Their partnership is supported through shared communications strategies, collective coordination on student-facing programs that span academic and co-curricular domains.
Division of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences
Serving as the academic foundation of the school, this division includes all faculty in the Arts and Sciences and the staff who support the A&S academic mission. This division creates and governs the curriculum, is responsible for faculty recruitment, retention, mentoring and professional development, and champions academic excellence, supports faculty governance, and cultivates interdisciplinary collaboration across departments.

Bringing together Residential Life, Student Life, and Student Affairs Administration, this division is designed to elevate the undergraduate student experience beyond the classroom. It focuses on student well-being, community engagement, and holistic development, with a goal of promoting students' intellectual, physical, and emotional well-being.
